Domain Balliccioni – Leon Chardonnay – 2014 – 13% -Côtes de Thongue 2014– Clifton Cellars
100% Chardonnay
This weekend there was a very strange event. The sun made an appearance, no…really! It seems that in the little corner of South West England despite a biting wind, the clouds parted and the skies became blue, the sun shone, and for at least 3 hours it seemed as if Spring was here.
In a giddy state I sprang forth to a wonderful wine produced by Domain Balliccioni, un-oaked and mouth-wateringly zesty. On the nose this wine displays the best of chardonnay, clean and citrus, with a hint of the garrigue. To the eye it resembles spun gold, beautifully clear and bright. On the palette it’s wonderful, refreshing, rounded, a perfect example of what can be done if you showcase the natural characteristics of this underrated grape.
This wine is perfect with a fresh goat’s cheese, salads or white meats.
